Incapacity Benefit

Can anyone tell me when Incapacity Benefit ceases if you are able to return to work. Specifically, are you assisted in any way up to the time you receive the first payment from your new employers? Otherwise, you could go up tp 6 weeks with no money?

    It stops immediately you return.

There is no 'phasing back in' or alternative assistance at all.

Or that's certainly the case if you've not been on the long term -- I'm not sure if there's special rules for that.

  • I think if you have been out of work for a period of time you may get some help toward new clothing (if needed) etc?? As for help to pay day.......well really thats how it is for most people??? Good Luck
Nb had a look at the site and found this:-
    Job Grant

If you have been claiming Employment and Support Allowance, Incapacity Benefit, Income Support, Jobseeker's Allowance or Severe Disablement Allowance continuously for more than 6 months and are starting work of more than 16 hours per week, you may get a Job Grant.
A Job Grant is a tax-free lump sum of:
    • £100 if you're a single person or part of a couple with no children, or
    • £250 if you're a lone parent or part of a couple with children.
The Job Grant is paid to you automatically when you start your new job, when you tell your nearest Jobcentre that you're starting work.

I read the OP's use of "return to work" as return to a job that has been held open -- which was the case for me.

I think the grant is only available if you're coming off benefits and starting a brand new (to you) job

It could be read either way -- I think the OP needs to clarify :)
