Barclays Home Insurance £50 Price match offer ?

Good morning to everyone . I have just received my renewal offer from Halifax for my Home insurance , then browsing barclays home page it states that there is an offer for a £50 Cash and they will beat the cost of my present renewal ....the underwriter are called Gresham ....is there a something I am missing as I will pay less and get £50 in the post ?

I've just done an online quote and their contents insurance is £10 more than my current Halifax policy. I've saved the quote as I have to leave home soon, but will phone them later. I can't get an online Buildings insurance quote as I live in a flat, so will get that first then enquire about the price challenge.

Yes they have confirmed that I am allowed for the £50 cash back via cheque and once they take the first payment and I send the halifax quote back they send the cheque

Were you taking both Buildings & Contents or one only?

I've just been told that as my property is a flat in Scotland, the underwriters are declining Buildings Insurance! The call agent, although from Newcastle originally, is absolutely livid as he lives in a flat in Perth and agreed with me that this is discriminatory.

That aside, he quoted me for Contents at £3 above my Halifax renewal premium so I will qualify for the £50 too.

He is going to a meeting with the underwriters on Monday and is going to vent his anger!

I tried this today and they matched my offer, in fact they even took £1 off my original quote! Their original quote was well over £100 more than my renewal as I checked online first.

I was told that after they had taken my first payment then a cheque would be sent to me for £50.00, provided I sent a copy of my current renewal within 28 days.

Also a bonus it is no extra to pay monthly.

I got this on a combined buildings and contents quote.

Hope this is of use to someone else.

The small print says the policies must be like-for-like. In the past offers like this have floundered as it is easy to find one point in a big policy where Barclays gives slightly more cover than your other quote.

I think I'd want confirmation that the refund is going to happen before signing up.
