Paypal transactions appear as purchases, not cash advances.
But I'd be weary about spending 500 quid on ebay!
  • Why would you be weary? Aint I protected by the CC company?

No, I tried this before when I got into a phone scam.
Basically, I bought a phone off ebay, I got a phone but it was the wrong model. The seller apologised and offered to send me the correct one, so i sent back the old one and obviously the correct one never turned up.
I got on to barclaycard to complain and they said the cc had been used to withdraw funds to paypal, which had been done successfully, and that I should take it up with paypal not BC. That was the gist of it anyway, i cant remember specifics, but basically they said i hadnt actually used BC's funds to buy the phone (rather I used BC's funds to pay paypal) and they werent responsible.

I cant remember what paypal said but they got out on a technicality as well, leaveing me 130 quid out of pocket!
