When Is "Pinta" Not a "Pinta"(When its in Plastic Bottles)

Options
I have noticed that my milkman delivers cartons of milk that contain only 500 ml however, i recently purchased a carton at a Supermarket which contained 568 ml. I have never taken much notice of this before, 68 ml is a hell of a lot to be short changed of when consumers think they are buying a "Pinta"

I have always tried to support our doorstep deliveries knowing they are more expensive, however this is a real eye opener and i am going to take it up with him.

Has anyone else noticed this?

Some supermarkets sell in litres, others in pints. Guess the same goes for doorstep deliveries too. As long as they clearly mark the measure, I see no problem.

    Yup

Our milkman for a while was supplying skimmed in 4 pint plastic containers, and semi skimmed in 2 litre ones, and it was made clear when we ordered it that that was the case.

He then changed to the same type of container (litres) for both types of milk, giving us about 2-4 weeks notice.

I suspect it's down to who supplies them, as he still delivers 1 pint glass bottles, and 2 pint plastic bottles.

Isnt this to do with those EU brigades, across the channel, the same brigade that created our butter mountains, and milk to be poured down the gutter (to be fair), oh and the Fishing quotas (were not allowed to fish in our waters for), Our farming industry and the latest fad of banning pesticides. Overlooking the GM saga. Isnt it to do with their "we use metric, so you SHOULD by OUR law, follow suit"

Pounds n ounces replaced with grams n Kilograms, and Miles n speed replaced with "kilometers". Remember the days you were proud to be British :D:D Shame we sold out.

Seeing as how you can by milk in both pints & litres, no would appear to be the answer to your question.

That's not correct. Produce has to be sold in metric units and not imperial - apparently to be consistent across the EU.

Remember the "Metric Martyrs" when this law first came in? Also, notice that petrol is priced per litre (although confusingly cars are still advertised with consumption based on miles per gallon).

The EU has relented, and stated that the UK can retain imperial units if it so wishes. Hasn't it?

That was generous of them, "relented", as in "oh go on then.."?

As far as I know, we cannot sell in imperial units, particularly meat and dairy products, although for the customers benefit they allow the display of imperial measurements (due to public outcry)

I think that's right. Items can be marked in imperial and metric or metric only but not just imperial.
