Hi, was just wondering a few things about student accounts?
last year the halls at the uni i want to go to were full, so when i start in september i want to go into private rented housing with other people, so i will need quite a big deposit (obviously im going to have a bit saved but nowhere near enough) - i was hoping you can open a student account quite a while before you start uni...so...
what do you need to open the account?
whens the earliest they will give it to you
& how much?
many many thanks!

When? - When you have confirmation from university and applications are open.
Overdrafts aren't usually given until first week of university or around then, usually, not always.
How much? Depends on a number of factors; who you bank with, credit rating, internal bank rating and income are the usual.0 -
Your deposit will be shared with the others in the house share probably around £150 each. Use your loan to pay your rent, The landlord will usually wait until that goes in the bank, he will know the date for it probably before you do lol0

TBH i wouldn't have expected the private flat/house depoit per person to work out higher than halls seeing as the halls at the uni my boyfriend is as (and im joining in sept) have a £200 deposit...On the up

If you can get into reasonable halls I'd always advise that, easy way to meet people etc, presuming your moving quite a way from home without friends etc. But either way your being quite reasonable.
You can normally apply once you've got a confirmed place and the paperwork to show this. So after results day for most people. I got my overdraft pretty much as I opened my account but this probably varies. If you don't get access to your overdraft early enough but know what you need, then talk with your bank. They have the power to grant it "early" or enough of it early.
If your uni regularly runs out of halls accomidation they may have schemes to deal with your predicted problem. No idea what though, as when my uni ran out of first year accomidation they went out and rented a load of accomidation which was then rented to the students at halls rate (which was the same all over the uni), but thats because they [FONT="]guarantee accomidation to all freshers.
