natwest to abbey online payment

I went into an Abbey branch to get a passook issued for a Fixed Rate monthly saver that i opened online and post. I saw one of the cashiers who issued me with a passbook, i got the impression she was new as she was asking a male cashier on the counter next to her for guidance throughout my transaction, she issued me with a passbook, when i asked her to what account i needed to transfer the money to she wrote down a sort code and account number on a post it note and stuck it to my passbook. Again she checked this number with her colleague. She wrote sort code 090000 and account 0005000. I set up the standing order for £250.00 from my Natwest account leaving on the 8th January 2009. It was only when i read the inside if the passbook that i found the account details should have been 00050005. I have contacted Natwest who have carried out an investigation and have written to me to say the money is sitting in a Abbey account. Please could someone advise how i can resolve this and what action i need to take, and who i should be chasing Natwest or Abbey? Thanks

I would think that the money will be sitting in an Abbey suspense account so I would contact them, if you go in branch they may be able to look through the accounts whilst your there and hopefully find the cash. If you have no luck with abbey then maybe ask natwest if they can trace the payment through the bacs system to see were it ended up.
  • You need sort code 090000 account number 00050005 and your passbook account number which will be for example X12345678 then surcode which is the first 3 letters of your surname. The passbook account number is printed on the inside page at the top. Any Abbey branch staff member can ring the help desk and speak to missing payments dept to locate the money.
