where to get video camera repaired?

I have a sony video camera which is just over 2 years old so out of warranty. I used it at my daughters Christmas party on 22nd Dec with no problems but when I took it out on Christmas Eve it wasn't working. I'm not very technical but basically I can switch it on, play what I recorded at the party and I can still record from there onwards. BUT, when you look through the viewfinder, or look at the wee screen that pulls out at the side, all it has is coloured vertical lines down it. And when you record, all it records and plays back are these same lines. It does seem to be 'seeing' what it's pointing at, as the lines change colour depending what it's filming. God - not describing this well at all -sorry. Makes me think it's some kind of focus problem so might be fixable without costing too much. Anyone know where I can get it fixed now it's not under warranty? I've never noticed anywhere advertising repairs of video cameras. P.S Have tried going through the instruction booklet but no help.

I had this with my digital camcorder, a Panasonic, though mine were black vertical lines on the playback screen. This is apparently due to a clogged head, basically a build up of guck on the playback head. Solution (assuming this is what you have) is to buy a cleaning cassette off Ebay for about a fiver. It took about three tries for mine but eventually cleared it. It occasionally comes back so I just repeat the clean.
May be of no use on your camera but I've noticed that, when it does it if I record just one second of film for some reason it clears the fault. Sadly all my videos contain a second of the living room curtain !am I missing something ??0 -
Thanks for this. I've tried recording and when I do it just plays back the same lines and doesn't clear it. I'll definitely try the cleaning cassette though. Off to search ebay now - thanks.0
