N power sell me online 10 then say i would pay less to stay as i was.

I was with N power. And Martin said time to chage supplier...... I looked up on the internet on the comparison sites and i did a few just to check........ First with only my address and N Power Online 10 came up. Then i put in my useage. And again Online 10. So i told them i would leave and they gave me the online 10 on the 15th of jan. I was told to wait a few months for all the paperwork to go through. I waited and called them. They said that it hadn't been changed but that it would be changed, and back dated to the 15th of jan. Then i received a letter saying that they had back dated it to the 15th of march. I phoned them up. They agreed again they were wrong and would change it. Then i got another letter saying they would back date it to the 15th of feb. Again i complained and they said sorry again, it would be back dated. It has been going on for a year and finally they phoned me up. And told me the online 10 wasn't avalible when they sold it to me. And the customer service person has been dealt with. And the reason the comparison site had the rates was because they are always informed 3 months before the tariffe is avaliable. They also said when they worked it out it was cheaper for me to be charged the old way rather than the sign on line 10.
So what i don't get is how it can be sold as cheaper and cost me more? How can it be you change for cheapness and that is what the customer service guy told me as well it would be cheaper. The online comparrison sites and Martin all said cheaper and according to N power it was cheaper to leave it the way it was. Surely have have been miss sold.

How can this happen?
What should i do next?

There a few possibilities - an incorrect annual consumption was derived from you entering your consumption in cash rather than kWh OR your useage pattern over the year contradicts with nPower's seasonal weighting OR the comparison site did not apply nPower's weighting OR nPower completely rejigged their weighting OR nPower stole from you by using their own definition of a year.
  • I too was with Npower and experienced similar inadequate and appalling treatment. I had to threaten legal action to obtain my annual dual fuel discount. It took 6 months, countless calls and ignored e-mails. Customer service is attrocious and their billing ways are misleading and difficult to ascertain if they are honest or not.

For the little that is apparently saved, it's not worth the hassle and I have moved to another supplier, never to return.

The OP has a problem with Martin Lewis and the comparison sites, not nPower. nPower appears to be advising them to stay with the cheaper option.

I'm all for pig-piling on nPower when appropriate. No need to pile in when they are not at fault - not as if there will not be plenty of other opportunities...
  • I am not mad at martin........... I am saying i am really confused. even N Power said that the online 10 was the cheapest. That was how their customer service guy got me to stay. I was just saying martin lewis the comparison sites and N Power all said it was cheaper. Then N power turn around like they are doing me a favour after a year of messing me around. And me calling constantly to sort this billing out, and say look we will charge you the cheapest. But they also told me the online 10 didn't exist till march and they were unable to charge me from jan on that tariff.

    So no slight to martin!!

Just want some information on where to go?

I feel i am being hoodwinked. But how do i prove it?
  • I did in put the useage in units and not in cash. Are you just saying they can sell it as the cheapest to me and give all thoes excuses as to why it didn't work out that way?
