Screws for MDF?

Options
Hello,

We managed to pick up some kitchen cupboards off freecycle. They are brand new as theyre delivered in error, but they have come without fixings/ screws/ handles.

I'm sorted with the hinges and handles and I have ordered some chipboard screws to attach to the cabinets, but the doors are MDF and I have been advised to get some 'MDF' screws.

The only ones I can find are these:

http://www.screwfix.com/cats/A331364/Screws/Board-Screws/MDF-Screws

But they don't do less than 25mm in length, and only need 20mm length (and it comes to quite alot with delivery when I only actually need 8!)

Is there an alternative that would work perfectly well?

Any advice would be greatly appreciated!

Have you tried any of the sheds? B&Q etc I know they sell MDF screws but not sure on sizes. They own screwfix too so maybe not

Standard general purpose woodscrews will do the job but you'll need to drill pilot holes first to get them to bite. Will save you money in screws (pennies i know but they all add up to pounds) at the expense of drilling pilot holes - plus any you don't use can be used for other non-mdf jobs. My favourite general purpose wood screws at the moment are wickes easy-drive screws - few pence more than the cheapest but worth it for the ease of use IMO. I've tried similar one's from B&Q but they don't seem to bite as well in normal soft wood. Screwfix always seem expensive to me on screws for the DIYer..especially if you only need a pack of 25.

Like Andrew-b says, just ordinary woodscrews will be fine (must say, I wasn't even aware there were 'mdf' screws) but I do use a pilot hole.
