Windows service pack 3 - query

Hi, I'd be grateful for some advice from the MSE techies....

I have a Dell Inspiron 9400.

I've had a notification that there is a new update available - Windows Service pack 3.

I remember all the problems SP2 caused to my old computer, so I did a search and discovered that I should not download the update if I have an AMD processor without installing a hotfix

So my questions are:

1 How do I tell if I have an AMD processor (or perhaps someone can tell me?)

2 Are there any other known problems with SP3?

3 Do the techies recommend downloading it?

My pc is running quite slowly, so if SP3 might speed it up, it would be welcome!

Many thanks for your input

Daisy

I've done loads of SP3 updates, without a hitch. As long you do it via windows updates!

If you look at Control Panel end then System, it tells you what processor you have.

    It won't speed it up.

    Thanks.

It says I have a Genuine Intel CPU T300

Can I assume then that it is not AMD? (sorry if this is a stupid question, I don't have any idea what I'm talking about, as you can guess!)

Yes it's not an AMD processor.

I've put it on 3 computers all with AMD processors and had no problems. It was (IIRC) mainly restricted to certain combinations with OEM versions of XP Pro. It should be sorted by now.
    Move along, nothing to see.
