    Thanks ogglydoggly and Merry Gentry

I know my failings:o :o Im hoping to get my BR date sorted out tommorow morning when the court opens, last time I enquired it was 4 to 6 weeks the last time so if its still the same then looks like sometime in March (subject to confirmation).

Im sitting here sticking my cut up peices of credit cards on to an old pic frame, this is going in my hallway so I can remind myself what a stupid !!! Ive been. So my plan of action for today is to

    * Sort out paperwork in readyness to get a SOA up and running

    * Get in contact with CCCS and see what my options are

and work out a budget to live on till the end of February

Daft thing is I earn a decentish wage, so why am I in this mess ( thats another story)??? but looking round my flat yes I can see where my moneys gone, compensating myself for being lonley, not many friends and I suspect a bout of depression thats hovering over me, so am of to the doctors this week when I can get an appointment, meantime I am going to have a freebie afternoon looking through BR forum and DFW forum and other related sites and maybe hatch a vague plan of action
Thank you for your kind words of support
    Sadie

Hi iceblond:) Blimey I thought this was a post from me but then i realised I havent been in Ikea lately:) I totally know where youre coming from with buying stuff on cards, particularly from the lonely, not many friends view - thats pretty much my story - Ive only recently decided that Br is the way for me to sort my debt problem out, some days Im confident and very matter of fact about it, others Im an emotional jeckyll and hyde - its bizarre! But it is a way forward, not backward - I have to keep reminding myself. Well done for facing your debt issues - the people on this forum are very helpful, hope it all goes well for you:)

I dont stress about answering the phone no and can vaguly relax just stressing if hubby going to have a job tomorrow or not ! - I put my ikea card away somewhere safe not that I can use it now anyway but cant find the thing anyway - next time i go (which wont be for a while!) Thank you one and all who have read my post and responded, I spent this afternoon reading through the forums, and scribbling down notes, I think I have a rough idea what I need to do, and the first one is to get down to my local county court and book my BR date then I have something concrete to aim at.
I did the CCCS Debt Remedy, it said DMP or BR, and spoke to someone on there, I dont think a DMP is for me, too long and drawn out, so I think that the BR route is where Im going to go.

Can someone answer me my first BR question.

If I can get my BR date in March, and before the end of the 2008/2009 tax year will I still have to have a Nil Tax Code for 2009/2010 tax year, the one thing Im worrying about is my employer finding out that Im BR through my tax code.

Then in reality I think so what? Im not in any danger of losing my job and if they dont like it they can go round with there nose in the air, I dont care anymore, my sanity is more important than there opinion of me. Im one of many in a bad financial situation but Im trying to do something about it.

So if anyone can answer my Nil Tax Code query Id be most grateful.

    Hi Iceblonde

re the nil tax code, if you go BR in march, they won't get the nil tax code through in time and it would not be worth their while to do it. Your employer cannot find out that you are BR just by them having to put a nil tax code on you as there are lots of reasons that HMRC can do this. And if your employer even dares ask why you have a nil tax code, HMRC will just tell them it is none of their business so do not worry. They can only apply the nil tax code for the current tax year, not for any new tax year.

You are absolutely right! stuff them if they stick their noses in the air, you need to do the best thing for you and if that is BR, then so be it. You are trying to sort your situation out and that is something you need to be proud of.

    Hope this helps out

  • Thank you Dalip, I thought that I had said/written something that had upset someone.

I have phoned mt local county court in Stoke On Trent and have booked Monday 9th March 2009 to go BR at 11.00am

When is the best time to open a BR friendly bank account? before BR or after. I bank with Halifax at the moment but they will be on my BR debt list because of my overdraft and I have 2 credit cards with them also have credit cards with MBNA and a loan from Citi Financial and HFC, I have added up my debts and it come to just ove 54.000.

I have looked at some other peoples SOA and will use that template SOA one on makesenseofcards, so need to sort out my credit agreements and get my percentage rates found out.Even a rough draft of my outstanding debts make me feel queezy.

I have a small bonus in Februarys pay and if I go careful with my money I can get the BR money togther.

I have not paid anything but the minimum payments for the last 6 months, and have just about managed but continued spending on feel good things that I didnt need.

I have a HA flat that is in a lovley area, all my utilities and things are up to date, but I will cut down in these areas as I think I am paying way far too much for gas and electric from British Gas and will look on motor insurance comparison sites to cut that down as well.

My shopping bills are ridiculous, I have enough cleaning and toiletry products to fill a shop and as for clothes I cannot believe how utterly stupid I have been.

I have an appointment with the doctor to have a chat about how down I feel, but I think that once I get control of my spending and just generally sort myself out I will be ok but I need to chat to her about other things so may as well say how bad I feel sometimes.Sorting myself out is probably the only thing I can do for myself but least its a step in the right direction and not one towards a shop armed with a credit card to buy that nice rush that I get when I buy something I really didnt need.
