Spouse taking a card to repay my credit card

Is it possible for my husband to take out a 0% balance transfer, no fee, to repay my credit card debt?

  • It's possible, but he should be fully aware that he'd be solely liable for the debt in that event, with no recourse to you.

You can switch your credit card balance to family, friends or Dave down the pub. Your partner should be aware though, that the person whose card your balance is shifted to, becomes soley liable for the debt. If you were to fall out, he couldn't ask the card company to charge you for any remaining balance.

From the lender's perspective, it's not a problem. If he requests the transfer by phone, customer services may ask for the name on the card, but this is purely an additional verification check. At the end of the day, the card companies are after his business. They're not really interested in knowing who ran up the debt, as long as he, their customer, pays up on time each month ;)

...and the Abbey Zero card (branch application is best) is the one you want if "fee-free" is the overiding factor. However, it's only 6 months 0%...is that long enough? If not, consider paying a fee for a longer duration.
