Help me with making a CD in Audacity

Hi, can someone help me with making a CD in Audacity.

I used to do it frequently on my old PC. Then I stopped doing them for a while & I got this new PC.

So I've downloaded audacity again. But I'm having trouble.

I use to do the recordings (they are 10 instructional tracks, each about 5 mins long), convert it with a drop down box in audacity, then SAVE AS a wave file (I think it was a wave file).

With the audacity I've installed on this PC, it seems to be a little simpler:confused:

I saved them as "EXPERT AS WAVE", & burned them to a CD.

It will play on the PC, but not a normal CD player (I need these to play in a car CD player.

I'm guessing its the wave thing that is the problem?

It's not "EXPERT AS WAVE" it's EXPORT AS WAVE. Did you finalise the CD when it was burned?

A stab in the dark here. I've done similar, but used Nero to burn them. Audio CDs have a different format than data CDs so it is a bit more than drag and drop as the software has to convert the sound to a music 'CD' format and burn as a music CD.

Id have a look here http://audacityteam.org/wiki/index.php?title=How_to_burn_CDs
GOOGLE it before you ask, you'll often save yourself a lot of time. ;)

    Typo.

I have no idea what finalise the CD means:confused:
  • I think the problem might be as mentioned above that your burning the wave files (yes you should be exporting to wave) as a data CD. You need to burn them as an audio CD. If your CD player can play MP3 files, the alternative is to export as MP3 and burn these as a data CD.

An audio CD need to be finalised or closed when burnt, otherwise a standard audio CD player will not be able to play it. When a CD is finalised no more tracks can be added but this is necessary for standard non PC drives to be able to 'see' the tracks. A PC will see the track finalised or not.

Thank you, Thank you, Thank you:beer:
I took great notice of this below, copied from your link, fiddled around with it & kept trying & it worked:j :j :j :j :j

Note: Windows Media Player 11 will not accept WAV files for burning if they are dragged straight into a burn list without having previously been played in Media Player. You will see a red symbol and a "length of file cannot be determined" error. To solve this problem, drag the file into the Media Player Library or into a playlist, then from there into a burn list. Also, this version of Media Player cannot burn AIFF files, so you must export from Audacity as WAV. Neither of these problems affect previous versions of Media Player.
