PC or Mac

Just to add my voice here :
I think any Mac owners not running any form of anti virus or firewall are going to get burnt in the future. The complacency a lot of Mac owners show is madness.
Macs are very easy to use. They can also be expensive on a like for like basis to PCs.
Personally I've been running PCs since I finally stopped using my Amiga.
Currently I'm using a self built Vista64 PC for just under two years (got it as soon as Vista was released) and the only trouble I've had with it is from the screwed up GFX drivers that were initially released by Nvidia. I've been using free anti-virus and the WindowsFirewall and had no problems at all. Don't believe the anti-hype about Vista, most of the initial problems were caused by people trying to run it on older equipment and the dirt has stuck.0 -
On a like for like basis I don't think Macs are significantly more expnesive than PCs. The difference is that Apple have chosen not to compete at the cheaper end of the market. So if all you want is internet/email a Windows PC will be cheaper.
However some people would then argue that a Mac will be usable for longer. I'm not sure how true that is though as my cousin's daughter is still using my old XP machine and that is at least six years old. It's my problem, it's my problem
If I feel the need to hide
And it's my problem if I have no friends
And feel I want to die0 -

I agree with this, and own and use both platforms, and have done since pretty much they were available 20+ years ago. Both have strengths and weaknesses.BillScarab wrote: »However some people would then argue that a Mac will be usable for longer. I've a 9 year old Mac PowerBook that I use on and off for general writing, it can run OS X too, probably the best designed laptop I've ever owned, I'll never sell it, it has 2 USB connectors, 2 firewire, 100-base-T Ethernet and a DVD drive, which were very rare on PCs when it was purchased.0 -

I bought my first XP machine in 2000 and it's still trundling along as a second machine. It's had a RAM upgrade, a slave hard drive, a new power supply and a USB 2.0 card fitted, and it's very happy.0
