Fletch, I'm a bit of an accumulator when something is ridiculously cheap and we use it weekly.... but for me to buy much of it, it has to come cheaper than the cheapest own brand of the same thing (reason being I can always buy the smartprice, so rather than the supermarket holding my money for a while as I stockpile a product, I may as well be earning interest on it myself). For example smartprice washing powder here is about $2 a box, so if Daz went down from $4 to $2.50, I still wouldn't buy it. But when I saw an unknown brand of washing powder named "Daio" at $1 a pack I tried it out and then bought 10 packs at once!!
However, given how prices have gone up in the UK, I can understand a seige mentality. Over here prices haven't risen too much, but on many things they were a lot higher than England anyway (less cheap imports, more home produced goods). It's swings and roundabouts with price comparisons between here and the UK, it's just a matter wherever you live of dealing with what you're dealt.Softstuff- Officially better than 0070 -
Good luck softstuff.
Pazu- thinking of you.
I've bookmarked this to read regularly and follow your progress. Well done for taking on this challenge

Hi, softstuff and good luck with your challenge
We've had diaries like this before, and MSE Andrea has asked us to put them on the How Much Have You Saved board, so to be consistent, I'll move yours there, too.

softstuff, how wonderful is this! Good for you on doing this - tho I'm horrified at the unpaid hours you work, and that anyone would work those hours, unpaid or not.
I was struck by the coffee thing too, and was going to suggest a little thermos. I bought one for the homeward journey on the days when I work in London (a 60 mile journey at 10pm at night) - thats quite different, of course, but its been really helpful for me, that thermos has paid for itself over and over (it only cost £1.96 in the first place too). Anyway, building in some "me" time is what it boils down to. I was wondering, it being Australia and all, whether there's a park bench or the equivalent where you can sit down (especially cos you're on your feet all the time at work) and peoplewatch or veg or whatever? With your home-made cup of whatever, of course.
I just love the idea of a one thousand day challenge, and a separate thread for it. I'll be returning!
EDIT - just wanted to say, I'm really glad you posted on the OS board - I don't usually go to the board where its been moved to, which happened while I was writing the above.
Thanks again.2023: the year I get to buy a car0 -
