Plane journeys with a change in planes

On arrival at Charlotte you will have to get off the plane, go through immigration, COLLECT YOUR LUGGAGE, then recheck it for your onward flight as you must clear immigration & customs at your entry point to the US
Coming back you won't have to do that and the luggage should be checked through all the way
If you miss your onward flight you should be put on another flight as you have booked UK to LV and you just happen to have to go through another airport
NOTE the airline will try to put you on the cheapest flight for them - which may mean an unexpected tour of the US.
STAND your ground and insist on a direct flight - and prepare for it by checking which routings you could take
Excellent advice:) Just one minor point....at CLT you do not need to re-check your baggage. You simply take it to the transfer area - this will be shortly after you clear customs. The norm is that you deposit your luggage on a moving belt (or someone will do it for you).0 -
Can I jump on this please. I am flying from Manchester to Heathrow with British airways then from heathrow to Hong Kong then onto Melbourne with Quantas.
Im pretty sure I read somewhere that BA & Quantas are partners or something but how does it work with my bags and what if the Manchester to London flight is delayed or cancelled as happened to a friend last week when trying to get to an interview in London.

it all depends on your ticket, is it one or have you bought two to save money? if its the latter then your bags will be checked to LHR and must pick them up and re check in (this is BA procedure) but im guessing that as its BA-BA-QF then its a through tkt and therefore your bags will be tagged to Melbourne and if the BA flight is late they will look after you but I would say try to get an earlier flight to LHR as getting another flight to Melbourne isnt easy and they wont put you on another plane if its already full0 -

That's exactly what happened when I flew from London to LA then an internal flight to Monterey. We came through customs and there was a guy helping people put their baggage back into the airport system to go to their connecting flights.0 -
Oh, don't forget to keep your luggage unlocked (or using a NTSA approved lock - shown with a little US flag) when travelling through US airports....especially on the way home.
They can and do open the cases and can force the locks thereby wrecking your suitcase.0 -
Is the LHR-HKG sector with BA or QANTAS?medders2604 wrote: »I am flying from Manchester to Heathrow with British airways then from heathrow to Hong Kong then onto Melbourne with Quantas
You'll arrive into Terminal 5 with BA from Manchester.
BA flights to HKG also operate from Terminal 5 so connection time is minimal and your bags will be through-checked IF both flights appear on the same booking.
However, QANTAS currently operate from Terminal 4 although this is due to change soon so keep an eye on their website for announcements or speak to a BA employee in Terminal 5 (your cabin crew on your Manchester flight almost certainly wont know). Either way, you'll need quite a bit longer for your connection.0 -

I've just come back from Orlando and yes they opened my case. Just wish they would learn to pack it again properly, not impressed by how they squashed some stuff I'd carefully arranged! :mad:0
