ending auction early?

emailed a seller to see if they would end the auction early and would accept an amount for the item (no bids on it)

They said yes and said when payment had gone through then she would post item

Double checked the item as i wondered if she had closed the item or what i had to do to pay for it and someone bidded on it! I bidded bit extra, emailed seller and said now willing to pay £XX but other person has bidded again - obviously there is no way shes going to accept now as the other person has bidded higher. Id is hidden but - being evil minded as i am - i wonder whether it is a friend bidding to get me to pay more for the item? could be genuine tho!

should i try and outbid them or just leave it? to be honest it is very near the limit i wish to pay and i know im whinging but it would of been a great item of DD's room and theres not another like it (that ive seen) Just wish she had sent me her paypal email or ended the auction lol

i know its not a binding contract - an email saying i could have it - but is there anything i can do?

No, there isn't anything that you can do. Basically, if you want it, try and out bid the other bidder, or if you have bid the highest amount you are willing to, move on and see if anyone else has listed it.

Use an auction sniper - that way if it is a case of shill bidding, they're unlikely to place another higher bid between your final bid & the end of the auction.

didnt think there was but thought i better double check - first time i have ever asked anyone to end auction early and never doing it again lol

will find something else - not same item on ebay but im sure ill find a nicer one somewhere lol

a what now? only used ebay a few times! whats a sniper and whats shill bidding?? was going to be naughty and get OH to bid in last few seconds - i cant be around tomorrow at the time auction ends which is why i asked for it to be closed early as no one else had bidded

Try http://www.goofbay.com/ - basically means your highest bid is placed in the last 5/10 seconds, so it's less likely you'll be outbid by someone after you've placed your final highest bid Saves sitting around waiting for the auction to end too!
