Scottish Power
Hi,
Has anyone experienced problems with ridiculously high electricity prices? We are paying £113 a month (negotiated it down from £160) and we cannot get a proper explanation as to how it is so high. We don't have gas at all and our flat is a new build. When we moved in we were told it would only be about £40 a month. We have had to pay it as they have threatened us with a key meter. We cannot afford and we have given them a meter reading but I think something went wrong to start with. Does anyone have any suggestions?

£113 a month is not ridiculously high if you use electric heating. It could be said £40 is very low.
I think it's quite likely £113 is fair and accurate but it's possible it isn't. You need to know how many kwh (meter units) you have used since you move in. Then work out how many you use in a year and divide by 12 to get a monthly cost. Make sure you use actual (A) readings, not estimated.
How many kwh in how many months?0 -
If you were only paying £40 and you have Electric heating then how much debt do you have? This will have bumped up the price.Self Employed, Running my Dream Jobs0

Scottish power want £110 per month from me i have just found out plus £90 gas. They are both with no arrears. My quarterly bills have never been aboce £300 combined. gas was something crazy like £30 in the summer. My recent electricity consumption i.e in the last 7 months has in my opinion been cut down dramatically , no washing machine hardly use dishwasher. I was told a few days ago £110 combined but had confirmation letter come through £200. I don't spend £2400 on gas and electric a year!!:mad:0

If you have no arrears and are not happy with what they are saying, why not switch and earn yourself £70? Eon are currently offering that amount for a dual fuel switch - get on the switching sites and get some quotes. Beauty about doing this is YOU initially choose your level of DD! Of course, I take it a step further and switch approx every 3 months to get cashback so I have never been long enough with a company for them to %^&$ about with my DD amounts. I tend to pay exactly what i will need to cover my 3 months with the company, so effectively I'm paying by standing order but getting DD discount. Plus cashback, of course (£300 per year is achieveable!)Call me Carmine....
