i have an NTL line which i get broadband included for £17.99. For the last 6 months i have used onetel for free evening and weekend calls. Now i the offer with onetel is over i have to pay £3.99a month. Does anyone know of another provider that i can use on an NTL line for cheap or free eve/weekend calls.
thanks
please dont tell me to cancel with onetel and then rejoin as this can be such a hassle

It seems to be getting increasingly harder to get such good deals with an NTL line as with a BT line. The majority of providers who offer NTL access are now offering differentiated tariffs for cable users.
I'm not currently aware of any completely free minute options available, other than the option to downgrade your onetel account to just free local weekend calls (standard monthly cost of £0.00), and join a provider such as the phone coop on their "Home User" tariff - call for up to an hour for 4.7p per call in the evening. You'll need the onetel phonepal still plugged in and use the 121 override to access the phone coop's 0800 access number.

I'm quite new to all this, I've been with NTL for some time and I hadn't realised until very recently that you could use any of the other providers - I thought you had to have a BT line. Anyway, looking on this site to see what was available I thought that the best option was to register with 1899 for calls between 8am to 6 pm, as I am on NTL's talk plan for free 01 and 02 calls evenings & weekends. I have registered OK via the 1899 website, but when I received the confirmation email I was told to use the number 0808 1707788 for non-BT landlines. When I tried that number, I connected to a message welcoming me to 188866 (!) and telling me that I had not yet registered my number. I went back to the 1899 website and noticed that the non-BT landline number there was 08081708708. I tried that number and it appeared to recognise my number and invited me to dial the required number, so it would appear to be ok. We shall see.
If I have missed a better deal that I could use with NTL perhaps somebody could point me in the right direction!0 -
Another supplier that offers cheap cable calls is http://www.firsttelecom.com/residential/residential-paymonthly-saverCS.htm Also i notice Telecom Plus offer them but you have to join their club.
At peak rate the best supplier is 1899 3p connection via an 0808 number and 0.5p a minute.
For E&W calls if you have not got free calls consider the following OneTel ,Phonecoop, and First Telecom, depending on your usage.
Bartman.
NTL charge £5 a month for the Free 01/02 E&W calls to any part of UK offer.Depending on the number of calls you make it might be cheaper to use another supplier.Eg .100 calls at E&W on Phone Coop a month would be £4.70p and you dont pay if your on holiday.
Also if you make 0845/0870 calls consider 18185 as well.Their rate to mobiles at weekends is also attractive for cable users.PF.0
