Lycos emails cease mid-February

I've had an email to say that my free email account at Lycos will cease to exist on 15th February.

As this is an "non-profitable" activity, all email accounts and contents will be deleted.

Not too much of a problem for me - I only use it for requests for info over the web; competitions etc. It will just take time to resubscribe with another email address to various sites.

I also received the email. Not too bothered as rarely used these days.

If it's important for you to have an email address that never changes, it would be worth buying a domain name - a ".co.uk" domain is just £2.99/year with 123-reg or £2.24/year with 1&1.

You then get a domain name like whatever.co.uk and can set up email addresses such as bob@whatever.co.uk and dave@whatever.co.uk, and set it up so that emails to these addresses are automatically re-directed to your "real" email address (e.g. user457@lycos.co.uk). If your "real" email address ever changes, you just set your whatever.co.uk address to forward emails to your new "real" address... if that makes sense!
