Want to buy perfume from ebay but am worried about quality

Some of the perfumes go for some decent prices on ebay but I'm always worried they'd be fakes/old stock/off... Has anyone any experience buying designer perfumes from ebay? I'm thinking going for the ones that are sealed would be the best bet?

:)

I'd pretty much stick with sealed boxes, but aside from that you should be fine as long as you take a look at the sellers feedback and see what other buyers have got to say about it. Be wary of buying anything that is too cheap though, as that is a sign that it could be a fake.

Sealed boxes don't mean its not a fake. I've seen some exceptionally good fakes in perfumes, fake boxes, fake bottles, etc all in sealed cartons.

Feedback is the best way of testing on Ebay, there is also the old adage that if it seems too good to be true, then it probably is!

Your best chance of a bargain would be on last season's stock or imported items, current stock in branded perfume is a fairly closed shop and there aren't that many opportunities for discounts.

Sorry to hijack... I have a perfume on ebay related question.

I'm on the lookout for a slightly obscure and somewhat expensive perfume on ebay, mainly because I haven't been able to try it in a shop and I don't want to pay the rather high full price!

I've saved a search to find it, just with the maker's name really. I've noticed a seller repeatedly relisting a perfume by the same maker... except they never put the name of the fragrance, and there is next to no description!

Do you think they'd appreciate me suggesting some improvements they could make to the listing next time? ;)

i have sold perfumes on ebay before.
there are a lot of genuine sellers on ebay. I either get perfumes for xmas that i don't want or buy at the duty free and then change my mind.

Perhaps the item is fake and by avoiding the full name they believe that they may get away without breaking certain laws.
    Be nice

  • I have just been browsing around these forums and have found a lot of new perfume websites mentioned that I hadn't heard of before. Most of them aren't on the price comparison sites so it pays to shop around.

I bought a YSL Aftershave on eBay a few months ago. It was genuine, but was a tester which wasn't mentioned anywhere on the listing. This meant it came in a white box which I didn;t really want to give as a present.

So I reordered from www.perfume-click.co.uk. It was a bit more expensive than eBay but at least it came in the proper packaging.
  • I've purchased perfumes for myself and usually go for the 'testers', ie they come in a plain box, some don't always have a proper lid and they always go for less. I figure if someones going to fake a fragrance they aren't going to do a fake tester. But ccheck feedback anyway.
  • I really think it depends, because i've sold bits of perfume on ebay, mainly chanel, because my father in law always buys me it for xmas, and I personally do not like it.
If its on ebay doesnt necessarily mean its fake, I've got the latest of my unwanted gifts to sell on ebay, loads of chanel chance in a huge gift box he brought me this year,I keep saying I want money, but get perfume, sounds ungrateful I know, but I want to sell it to get something I want, and I am perfectly genuine!!
