Tesco clubcard credit card

I currently only have one credit card (Nationwide) but am looking at getting a tesco clubcard on.

If you apply online do you have to send documents off? I don't have any bank statements as I do it all online.

Address - I move around so often for work that sending it to parents they would have to forward - can I put an alternative address?

Also with nationwide I have a DD set up but whenever I spend on the credit card next time I logon online I pay it off. Tesco can you do this or does it have to be DD only?

thanks in advance

Most credit decisions are computerised now and Tesco gives instant decisions and credit limits without the need for documentation, provided that your ID can be verified electronically using the electoral roll.

when I applied for Tesco Bonus Credit Card, earlier this year, around August time, after giving all the details on line, towards the end, was asked to send details -bank statements, utility bill etc. before confirmation

This suggests your ID could not be verified electronically. Are you on the electoral roll at your current address? I applied to Tesco online recently and no documents were required.

IME, Egg, Halifax, Mint, the Post Office, Tesco and Virgin/MBNA all give instant decisions and credit limits online or by telephone (provided that they can verify your ID electronically via the electoral roll.) I got instant acceptance from Capital One too but, if memory serves, waited three or four days for the limit.

    thanks guys.

Would I have to put the address where my parents is which is where all my bills (if any) go and where my bank is registered.

Or would I be able to get it sent elsewhere
  • You can have a DD for the minimum payment set up and also pay chunks off whenever either via your bank's online banking or the Tesco CC website

This is a common situation and, as you're building a credit history with your bank account and presumably your Nationwide credit card, it's sensible to keep everything at your parents' address, at least while you're moving frequently.

Lenders like stability, so best practice is to apply for credit facilities, where possible, before you move/change jobs/change banks and make as few changes beforehand as practicable.

Btw, there's nothing to prevent you from being on the electoral roll at both addresses so, if I were you, whatever else you do, I would stay on the register at your family home ;)
