has anyone painted beading to blend in with skirting?

thinking of doing this because i have a light pine style laminate floor and the beading is a darker colour than the floor. if i did this should i sand it first or just clean it well? some of it has gone black due to being damp for ages.

if its damp, then it may be best to replace it with new bare wood beading first, and then paint.
    Get some gorm.
  • good point.. ideally i'd replace the flooring as well with a darker colour like oak but its the cost of it. can you get away with cheap laminate in a lounge? i worked out the decent toughloc stuff would cost over £200 as its quite a big room.
  • is the beading actually timber or is it veneered mdf.if its mdf you will need special paint whatever it is it can be done .but best way is as ormus suggests

i'd always remove skirting prior to laying laminate / wood floor, cleaner more pro finish. i'd not go for cheap stuff as it's a heavy traffic area, by the best you can afford ( i know sounds stupid if your on a budget ) as you will notice the difference, my room 4.5m x 5.5m was £800, worth every penny fitting is simple too... good luck

you dont say wy its become damp

Why has the beading gone damp. I would be more worried as to why it has gone damp that the colour

We have some laminate in the hallway very dark I hate the colour, it wasnt us that out it down, the beading around the laminate is white glossed. If you do paint it oviously its tricky maybe use avery small brush or put some masking tape down
  • its got damp in the porch and under the big window due to condensation... i have cleaned, masked off and painted with all purpose water-based primer which i hope will be a good enough base for the acryllic satin white paint i have and already used on skirting. i cant afford to replace anything!

i'd be fitting a vent 1st to prevent further condensation or install radiator, is the floor under the laminate water damaged? dont fix the cosmetic prob, find the source and cure that, save you a bunch in the long run

If thats the case I would perhaps invest in dehumidifier if condensation is a problem in other areas too

I have varnished wood beading to match the floor and varnished skirtings and it wasn't that difficult, just use a small brush and I used a thin piece of card to protect the floor as I went along.
However in our bedrooms is the vinyl coated beading which I think wouldn't be paintable, but if it was me I would paint it with all surface primer and do a bit in an out of way place.
  • the condensation can be caused by a number of things may i ask how long you have your heating on for .and i take it theres no heating in the porch
