Help, Ford Ka coolant

Hi
I have borrowed my brothers Ford Ka and was trying to fill up the washer bottle. After I filled it up to max with water I realised it was the wrong tank. I filled the tank at the back of the engine on the left hand side (as you look at the front of the car)

I have now filled the washer bottle but will the water in the other tank be a problem (I think it may be the coolant tank)

thanks
Once I've saved it I spend it !!

That is not the coolant, that is the power steering hydraulic fluid reservoir! Unless you don't know your LHS from your RHS.

Which one of these was it?
    A is power steering fluid
    B is engine coolant
    F is washer bottle.

If it's A, you've got a problem because you've just put water in the power steering reservoir. If that's the case, you will need to take it to a garage to have the power steering system completely drained and refilled. If you don't do that, it will severely affect the steering, eventually damaging the power steering pump and the steering rack which will cost £100's to put right.

If it's B, it should be OK but you should remove water from it until it's at the maximum mark to avoid the coolant system being over pressurised.

    Hi

I obviously don't know my right from left. You are right it was the tank on the right. Is that the collant and is the extra water in it ok.

    thanks

  • i would assume that too much water would damage it, i suggest a call to the aa or similar!

IF IT IS ITEM "E" IN THE IMAGE ABOVE STOP DRIVING THE VEHICLE IMMEDIATELY.

If it is item E, you've just put water IN THE BRAKE FLUID. You need to stop driving immediately as it will mean that the brakes will fail. It needs taking to a garage and the brakes completely bleeding.

It's not ideal as you have diluted the concentration of the anti-freeze but as long as you did not add much water, should still be OK.

did you fill it to the max line or did you fill it to the brim?
if you have filled it to the brim i suggest getting it back down to the maximum line, the whole point in the space being left above the max line is for the coolant to heat up and expand. when it gets up to temperature it will blow the cap off the tank or crack the tank. just imagine filling up your kettle to the brim and completely sealing it. what do you suppose might happen?
