How to stop Debt Management Company calls?

Hi, I keep getting unsolicited telephone calls from a debt management company called Money Manager. I don't know how they got my number. I have asked them to take me off their database until I am blue in the face, but every few weeks I get another call. I'll never use their services and I just want the calls to stop. I can't find a telephone number for them, or a website; there are quite a few companies listed at Companies House with variations on the name, but I don't know which one it is, or even if it is a UK based organisation, given that the call centre is clearly abroad. Next time they ring I will try to get some information but in the meantime, I wondered if any of you have had similar expereinces. I'd particularly like to hear from anyone who has successfully got this (or similar) companies to stop cold calling. Thank you for reading.

Have you got their phone number by doing 1471? Ifso, ring your phone provider and have the calls barred.

    Hi,

I too have had these calls. I get about 5 a day !! HELP. They always ask for the previous house owner and when i say they no longer live here, they then ask if I own the phone number ! They always start off saying about new government legislation.

I have spoken to Trading standards and they have informed me it is a company based in the uk but uses 0203 number (which is abroad). Trading standards, BT etc can do nothing about them. We cannot bar their number as it's an abroad number. When i googled the phone number a lot of complaints came up about this company. They change their name all the time too. If you ask to be taken off teir lists then they just hang up.

It appears we can do nothing about them. I have left them on hold for 15 mins before and now I just blow a whistle down the phone to them. It seems to have worked for the last few days. But their calls were making me a wreck.

Sorry I can't be of more help.

Soory, forgot to mention, but the google information states that they got our phone numbers from a stolen list and the owner of the company has fraud charges against him.
  • OK so this is a debt management company rather than a debt collection company. Make a complaint to the OFT against their UK registered business they have to have a consumer credit licence to offer debt advice(http://www.oft.gov.uk/advice_and_resources/resource_base/credit-licence/requiring) - mind you as they sound like shiesters they will probably just claim the overseas people are nothing to do with them and using thier name without permission. They sound like a group of total scumbags.

  • Hi everyone, just wondered if anyone has managed to get rid of these calls yet and if so, HOW? I am getting at least one a day. Sometimes I ignore it (I have caller display) sometimes I leave the phone connected and go off and do something else. Nothing works. I have also told them to remove me from their database or I will take legal action, he just hung up on me. I am registered with TPS but I can't fill out the complaint form without the company's name (Money Manager) address and phone number which I don't have. It used to be 0203 but is now 0000000!! I did try calling them back once but the message said "this number is no longer in use" It was 10 seconds after they had called me. They do start the conversation by saying that they are a Government sponsored debt management company so surely there must be a Government dept which could deal with these people? Any help will be gratefully received. thanks

I too have got these previously - usually appearing as an international number on caller display - but all the comapnies were uk based, just rerouted their calls to get around TPS.

I have found the following works quite well.

"I have told several of your colleagues previously that I am not interested, I have no unsecured debt and have asked for my details to be removed. All your calls are now being recorded and passed to the police to gain a criminal conviction"

Usually works quite well - last one just hung up (and no one has called back)
No Longer works for MBNA as of August 2010 - redundancy money will be nice though.

no idea what my nerdnumber is - i am now officially nerd 229, no idea on my debt free date
  • I have witheld number barring on BT, but it wont pick up the current 0000000 number for this company, I too am getting a bit fed up of it, what happens if you try and find out further information, contact details etc??
I had the phone hung up on me when I asked to speak to a supervisor to deal with the nuisance calls.
As a customer services manager myself I will always deal with any call centre in a firm but polite manner. However there will always be exceptions and this is quickly becomming one of them.
  • I got those too and tried all of the above. SO i told them that i worked for a debt management company and promoted IVA's too..haven't had a single phone call since.

Still lurking around with a hope of some salvation:cool:
  • I've tried everything and I've just had the 3rd call today!! Threatened them with trading standards, legal action & police. They just hang up and then call back a few hours later. I just leave them talking into the arm of the chair now until BT sends it's "siren" sound to let me know my phone is off the hook. It's not a solution though and I'm getting really, really fed up with it now.
