Still haven't decided what to do with the microbore issue! We have now definitely decided where to put the boiler.
Decisions still to make :
* Which boiler to get ? (everyone says Worcester)
*Which size pipe? Stick with 10mm or get it changed to 15mm?
*Think the main pipes are 22mm so can we just get the 10mm changed to 15mm up to the radiators?
* Should we just get a whole new system even if they are 22mm under the floorboard so that the whole system is brand new? (this feels like a waste of money)
* Copper pipe vs. plastic pipe - which is best??
Answers on a postcard MSE Plumbers...!

Well, given I have more information now regarding pipe sizes under the floorboard, I didn't think it would be too much trouble to ask for a bit more help. Maybe that is not the case.

Ok,
Let's try to bring this to a sensible conclusion for you.
1. There is no point in replacing the microbore
2 .Worcester and Vaillant are the boilers of choice for the majority of heating engineers
3. Copper pipe is preferable to plastic
4. Ensure the system is thoroughly powerflushed when having the new boiler fitted.Happiness, is a Kebab called Doner.....:heart2::heart2:0 -
thank you very much for that thechippy. We have had so much conflicting 'help' from so many people that it had all become a bit of a blur.
I am 100% certain about copper, but all the plumbers seem to say plastic - why? i have no idea.
Will take onboard the note about flushing the system thank you and we have also decided (last night) to go for a Worcester or Valiant rather than the others that were suggested by the plumber.
Many thanks for your help

No problem,
Let us know how you get on.....;)Happiness, is a Kebab called Doner.....:heart2::heart2:0 -
I definitely will do. It is extremely difficult to make decisions like this when you haven't a clue what is good/bad and as I say, so much conflicting advice. I like to be one step ahead of workmen so I don't get fobbed off (!) but in this case I am like a blank canvas. Once again your help is much appreciated
Will update thread when heating in

Hi All,
For information for anyone else experiencing any of the indecisions mentioned in this post, here is what we ended up doing:- getting the 22mm pipes replaced
- getting the 15mm pipes feeding the radiators changed from 10mm
- using copper piping
- getting a Worcester boiler
- buying our own radiators (cost as yet unknown but hopefully cheaper than £600 quoted by plumber)
- Taking up the chipboard floor ourselves - this seemed to be the deal breaker as no one wanted the hassle of taking the floor up and many priced themselves very high instead of just telling us the truth.
Thanks to all the constructive help on this thread :T It is very much appreciated
