Hi there,

I am wondering if anyone can help and tell us what stance we have on this.

We were with Npower at our last place in which we oved out end of August. We had a DD setup for them but rang them and said we were moving house and will be cancelling the DD and for them to send us a final bill which they said was fine.

So we waited and after several phone calls, finally got a final bill. Now the bill we expected to be about £35 was actually £100, along with another bill a few days later to say we were in credit by £7. So, I rang them and went through several phone calls where they eventually apologised and said the £100 was a mistake and already paid and also we would get a cheque for £7 and account would be closed.

So that was fine and carried on and did get our £7 cheque after a while.

We then moved into our new property in September and decided to sign up with Eon for Gas/Electricity and that went fine and got 1st month bills etc.

So we went off on holiday and expected we were with Eon and Npower cancelled. when we got back, what actualy happened was Npower automatically setup another DD and tried to take money out when we already transferred all our money out of that account. So we ended up getting charged £30 for non payment of bill. Now we were busy at the time so left it and we heard nothing more.

Now today I have received an Electric bill from Npower stating a bill for £181 dating from 14th oct - 13th Jan.

So I have phoned Eon and they said after their 1st bill, Npower requested to take over electric from then so Eon let them.

I am currently on the phone to Npower, but in short I specifically cancelled and closed account back in august and never requested it at new property.

Im on hold at the moment but the lady said i would have had to agree to new contract in order for when they set it up and i know i didnt. Just on to another woman and says i spoke to Npower and agreed this. Shes gone off to check but I know I didnt so where do I stand once I am proved right?

Any help appreciated

I had a similar problem, the advisor you spoke to first time put through a sale to supply your new address which if you said no to that then it is an Erroneous Transfer, they may say oh you agreed verbally, if they do say that ask for a copy of the call sent to you, they will then back down and admit that they are wrong. Good luck, let us know how you get on.
  • Cheers Rian1988,

Yeah I rang Eon our current suppliers and they mentioned an Erroneous Transfer. Also after conversation yesterday she said they are putting a complaint in and will start looking into it from monday. Also she said on the notes they had a call made on 22nd August with me agreeing to transfer the contract to new place. Now I made several calls to them complaing and trying to sort out bills so cant remember exactly what I said and I would be the first to say that they could of said at one point we will transfer your contract over to new house and I probably just said ok as was fed up with calling them.

However, after I got off the phone I remeber the last call i actually made to them was in december and was when i can remember saying to the lady after they cancelled the final bill, is that our account closed and we dont have an account with you now and she said yes, so regardless of what i said in any conversation before, this would surely cancel anything out as was my last call to them and closed everything
