i have been given a wireless router free from aol,no room for extra wires on the current router.
OK, if there is no room then you need to buy a switch which plugs into one of the plugs on your current router and you can then plug more plugs from computers/devices into the back of the switch. As simple as that. You can also use it when you have say 2 pcs downstairs and 3 upstairs, you put a switch downstairs and upstairs and link them together with a cable and the computers up and down can talk to each other, but you only run one cable (between switches up and down) you then run cables from the up switch to the up pcs and down switch to the down pcs meaning you run less cables.

Here's two Netgear switches: One is 5 port i.e. it is 5 plugs on it and one is 8 port (has 8 plugs) don't forget one plug will be used to connect the switch to your router, you will also need to plug the device you unplug from your router (where the switch will link with the router, you will need to unplug something) into the switch, so you will lose 2 ports before you can plug anything else in.
    :)

Give Wireless another go. 2x adsl connections is a little extreme. Wireless can be tricky but there are plenty of us here that can walk you through it.

It depends on where your computers and switch are/are going to be sited. If your switch is going to be close to the router then you can just use a normal ethernet (Cat5 cable with RJ45 connectors) cable to connect the router to the switch. If your switch isn't going to be near the router you will need Cat5 cable to run to the switch and then you will need to terminate it to then use a patch cable or get a plug to connect the switch. You could either use a box where the cable wires in behind, or you could just buy a crimper tool with some plugs and put the plug straight onto the end of the newly run cat5 cable. (Note: The Cat5 box is much easier to connect)
