This would seem an ideal time to go back to college/university to retrain. You're still very young and have your whole life ahead of you.

It's nice to know there are other people in my situation!
Could someone help with this question? As I mentioned in my first post, I'll have been able to bring in two months wages by the time my job is over, but knowing I'm going bankrupt if I stop paying my bill and keep that money to one side (under the mattress)! I'm worried it could cause some awkward questions. After going bankrupt I'd hope to have say, £1000 in cash I could keep to see myself through until I get a new job.
Would it be ill advised to do this and just pay what I can before I go bankrupt?
Thank you all for the help, you have no idea how much it means.0 -
Also...
I just wanted to make sure I had this right in my head. Hopefully the DRO might be a viable alternative, but if not...
Phone my local court to tell them I want to petition for bankruptcy. They will set a date and send me all the forms I need to fill in (or I can fill these out online)
Take all my paperwork and my fee to the court on the date and time set.
All being well, become bankrupt.
Is that right or am I missing everything?0 -
Yes, that's right.
Back to your first question, once you decide that BR is the way to go stop paying all creditors, you'll need the money for fee and to get you through the first tricky weeks of BR.Accept your past without regret, handle your present with confidence and face your future without fear0 -

Thank you Peachyprice.
I was just a bit worried that if the OR or someone saw £1500 disapear from my account in the 3 months going prior to going BR, if they asked me where it had gone the answer "well, £500 went on going BR and the rest is under my mattress so I can afford to eat and give my parents some rent" might not go down too well!0 -
I doubt they'd even ask. I didn't pay my creditors for 8 months before going BR, no-one ever asked what happened to the money.Accept your past without regret, handle your present with confidence and face your future without fear0

Peachy, I don't know what I'd do without you. You are an unquestionable legend.
One other thing... I've spent about £25 on sky bet over the last 12 months. Will they laugh at me and send me to prison for gambling?0 -
For £25 no
Most peole spend more than that on the lottery over the course of a year. Accept your past without regret, handle your present with confidence and face your future without fear0 -
Super.
Well, it seems my court do a first come first served basis. So... basically, I could fill in the forms and go and bankrupt myself tomorrow it seems.
Wow!
I'll have a think about things, fill out all the forms and wait until I've lost my job and I think that's the moment to do it.
