XBox Failure - Microsoft Dire Customer Service

Just wondered if anyone has got the same problems as us?

This morning we have just encountered our SECOND xbox failure which has resulted in a red light flashing in lower right corner of circle, and a E74 error message. Our xbox is 13 months old!!!! 1 month out of warranty conveniently!

We work in the computer industry and we know how to check cables, etc and have followed all microsofts tips to identify the fault, both on their web and on the phone. Microsoft want to charge us another £65 to send it off for repairs, but why should we....its the second machine in a row to do this and seeing the forums for the xbox its a common hardward fault which is known to microsoft. They should sort it for us, or at least offer us a replacement..I have hairdryers that last longer than these machines!

Has anyone got any joy with getting replacements, or have successfully got some decent customer service/repairs?

We have been faithful to microsoft, bought loads of games and looked after our machine well....why should we keep buying a console with known problems, and zero customer service only for it to fail on a yearly basis?

Might just trade it all in and get a PS3? Rubbish! It would be interesting to read if anyone has any other experiences with this...thanks!

  • I've had two red rings now, the first one like you happened after 13 months, and the second after about 9 months. The first time I had to pay £60 the second it was under warranty.

I thought 3 red rings where covered by a 3 year warranty now?

The 3 rings is the only fault covered by the 3 year warranty.
The other red lights are by way of diagnosis. Sounds a bit like a connection fault but I'm sorry I don't know.
I had a 360 which was played to bits for 2 years and 10 months then the RROD. Microsoft replaced the cooked, bent motherboard under the extended guarantee but also replaced the sticking drawer and also gave me a new case (a new 360?) within 2 weeks.
If you don't get any luck you would be better of with 3 red lights...
