Blocked websites/unable to

Hi everyone,
I got a new laptop the other week, now connected to internet wirelessly...everything going ok except there are certain websites that I cannot visit. The message that pops up is that the 'link appears broken'

Can anyone advise whether it's just a settings thing that needs changing on the laptop? The websites are obscure or anything e.g. one that wont come up is bbc.co.uk
Any ideas? it is getting really annoying...I have a firewall etc, but I'm not sure why I can visit most websites although still have ones I can't access.

Thanks in advance!

  • Do you have any other PC's that are connected or you can connect to the
web ? If so can they view the webpages you cant see on your laptop ?

Ah yes, my partner has a PC on which I am able to view & use all the websites which appear to be blocked on my laptop...so it's not a website problem and that's why I'm thinking that something about the websites are being blocked by my laptop!

    goto bbc.co.uk and press control+F5

Type this into your browser 212.58.224.138 and tell me if the site comes up.

Log into your router and find out what your MTU size is.

Followed those instructions- the site doesn't come up but I got this:
http://212.58.224.138/ saying 'Sorry, the address you have found is not currently a public BBC server'

Not sure how I log into my router or found out what MTU size is?

hmm are you using windows XP?

click start > click run > type cmd > click ok > type in ping bbc.co.uk tell me what happens

then type telnet bbc.co.uk 80 and press enter you will get a blank scree, type get (u wont c what u type) and press enter and report what happens.

Have had password problems & been away, thanks for the replies...
Am using windows vista- presume that is pretty similar to XP, will it make any difference?
Will double check what router we've got when I get home tonight...
