Need a shower solution?? Any ideas?

Hi all,
Me and OH recently moved into private rented property. We are in desperate need of a shower, and don't really want to bother the landlord. The only problem we are having is that the wall is not tiled, well it is, but only from the bath up the wall by about half a metre. Obviously, if we were wanting to install a shower, then we would need to tile the wall. We have been trying the think of different (cheaper) solutions that we can. So far we have came up with, getting a shower curtain frame and installing it away from the wall, to ensure no water goes onto the wall. We are contemplating whether to buy a set of mixer taps (quite pricey) or one of those "shove on the taps" cheapo showers you can get in argos, wilkinsons etc. These are around a tenner.
Is there another way that would look better and be a bit more of a permanent fixture, but that will also not cost the earth??
Many thanks in advance

Most Tenancy Agreements specify you are not to make any alterations to the property without your landlord's permission. The sort of things you are mentioning (Except the plastic hose thingy!) come under this category. You really should consult your Landlord and try to make arrangements by agreement that way. Otherwise you may risk your deposit at the end of the Tenancy.

What we did was to get a couple of those expanding pole thingies. On the wall side we had a vinyl curtain so no moisture went through to the wall and on the bath edge side we had a nice nylon one. Worked a treat just so long as you remember to move the vinyl one to allow the condensation to dry.

  • I've painted a wall with bathroom/kitchen paint, a couple of coats made the wall impervious enough for it to have a shower running on it.
Make sure the bath seal at the join to the wall is in good condition too.

I agree that you should consult your landlord on this first to avoid risk losing your deposit when you move out. I believe there are some circular ring shower fittings than at available but these would mean showering in a rather limited space with the shower curtain being pulled around you 360 degrees. Don't know where you could buy them. You could try Googling 'circular shower fittings'
