ASDA Recruitment = Sods Law!

Last October, I went upto our local Asda store (Morley Leeds)
And asked for an application form for p/time xmas work for my wife.
The girl on the counter, Told me that Asda were not recruiting until Easter 2009!
She did not say anything about xmas work?
To cut a long story short, A friend of the family also went to an Asda store = 5 miles away, And got an application form, Filled it all in and got 'Seasonal Work' from November - January.
And now this week she has only been offered a 'FULL TIME JOB' Typical!!
Good news, But what I am complaining about is why does one store recruit by the 'Bucket load' and other stores don't recruit?
Surely, Every Asda store needs 'Extra' workers for the xmas time?
Can Someone (Employee) in the know please explain why 2 supermarket stores of the same company 5 miles apart are working in different ways?
The only explanations I can think of is =
A The girl on the desk on the day 'Couldn't be arsed' to go and get an application form?
B The store is ran by 'Clockwork' and has a 100% staffing record (I very much doubt that)?
Hearing that our friend has worked not only at xmas, But now starting full time has annoyed me!
Complaining to Asda HQ in Leeds also.

Perhaps they had already recruited by that time? Or maybe they knew they had lots of returning students for Christmas work.0

Asda recruitment depends on sales forecasting and whether or not they actually need any staff to cover seasonal work. They may already have their quota of staff in order to run the store.
As an aside and for something to consider in the future, when the actual applicant comes in to get an application form for a job it looks good.
When they can't be arsed to get one themselves and get someone else to do it for them, well perhaps they won't be arsed enough to turn up for a shift!
No offence, but get your wife to apply next time.
Further it also depends on the position applied for and which departments are short staffed.
I know how it works cos I work for Asda, a lot of people think' oh its only shop work' and they'll walk into a job straight away. Its not that easy, people get turned down for all sorts of reasons, just by filling in the application form wrong and not scoring enough points will not get you an interview. You'll be surprised at the calibre of people turned down in my place because they didn't answer a simple question.
In addition, with the credit crunch on and partners/husbands losing jobs hands over fist the (mainly) women who work there will be fighting for any bit of over time going. So the store will be relying on their own already trained staff to fill the shortfall.

Don't listen to "the girl on the counter". Get the application form and send it in.

OP each store is given an allocation of staff they can recruit as seasonal staff, im speaking from experience as i work for a competitor so it might be different,0

If the above is a true example of Asda recruitment logic in action, next time I would find a different retailer and apply there

When I worked in HMV, we were told that if someone asked for an application form for a friend or family member we were to refuse them as the applicant should come ask for themselves. Perhaps Asda have a simular policy?0

I think I applied for a job in Asda once, or might have been Tesco. Got an application form which I filled in and handed in but didn't even get a reply from them about it.0

The application for Asda is unfair! I went for an 'Asda Magic' recruitment thing. One of the tasks, done in pairs was making a tower out of balloons. Neither myself or my partner in this could blow up balloons and tie them up. This was to show to the HR staff that we are good team players. It looked like to these people that we couldn't be bothered!
Also what makes me mad with some supermarkets, is that when they go through the interview stages and there are children, partners, siblings of current store colleagues, that they ALWAYS get the job because of their OH or a relative works there. The current colleague maybe an excellent worker, but that's not neccessary the case in their OH or relative. I have been to interviews for another supermarket. My friend who worked there said all of the new recruits were connected to colleagues."The reason we're successful, darling? My overall charisma, of course." -- Freddie Mercury

Oh god which store was that-I've worked for 3 HMV stores and I don't ever remember my TL/Supervisor/AM or Store Manager being that mean! And I have worked for some quality, hard pushing Managers in the company.
I can see the point but by god, that's mean!!Loan-£3600 only 24 months of payments to go!!!
All debt consolodated and cards destroyed!!
As D'Ream would sing 'Things.....can only get better'!!!0
