Tearing my hair out with wireless connection!

Would be grateful if anyone can help with this. I usually get the job of sorting out all of hubbies computer probs (which I do more by luck than by skill). But this one has me stumped. He uses his laptop at home and in his office via separate ISPs/wireless connections, but the one in his office has stopped working. It still connects at home. He has borrowed my laptop and that connects in both places.

Have tried resetting router/WEP keys at office but still no luck with getting his laptop to connect. We've tried disconnecting/reconnecting modem; tried system restore (but his laptop fails to restore to an earlier date).

If anyone has any ideas about what else I could try, you guys would be saving me from spending the weekend with Mr Grumpy. Thanks

What do you mean by stopped working?

    - Can he connect to the network but pages don't load?
    - Can he see the network in the available wireless network section?
    - Is the router broadcasting the SSID?
    - Does it work if you connect to the router via an ethernet cable?
    - Has he made any changes to his network drivers?
    - Has anyone else had any problems?
    - Maybe he has accidentally changed his wireless settings to something like 802.11b - and the work one only accepts g but home accepts both?

might have taken off the automatically connect to this network setting.
  • Try plugging in an Ethernet cable to your hubbys lappy and plug the other end into the modem. On the lappy, open Internet Explorer and type in the IP address '192.168.1.1' (without ' ). For a Linksys Router, the username AND password should be 'admin' (if you have a different brand, search online for the IP adress of the router- its pretty similar). Once on the setup page of the router, make sure you have enabled WEP security (under 'Wireless-Wireless Security (normally) tab), 64-bit encryption and a ten character passphrase ( i use 1234567890) under 'WEP key 1'

the router in the office may have frozen - can anyone else connect to it?

Not sure of the work environment - Is it a small business where heis responsible for the equipment himself - or part of a large organisation with an IT department.

If he has access to the router at work - it may need resetting (simply turned off and on if there is no reset button)
