Credit reports: inappropriate searches by car insurers

I recently checked my credit report and saw searches by a couple of car insurances companies with whom I have no financial connection to and I have not made an application for credit, or even have insurance with. My husband called a number of companies to "shop around for car insurance quotes" but he decided not to change companies after all. I didn't think companies should be doing checks when all we asked for was a quote? Is this right ? Can any one shed any light on this please?
Thanks

I think they do it so they can confirm you are who you say they are; also one site asked me if they could do a search, if I said no, the direct debit monthly payment option would not be available.
You should see my credit record after I've shopped around! But it's not harmed my credit record, as they're just verification searches.A friend is someone who understands your past, believes in your future, and accepts you just the way you are.0 -
The searches they perform do not impact your credit rating so that is nothing to worry about.
When you take a monthly premium option for insurance you are agreeing to a loan in effect.
The insurance companies finance arm pays your insurance premium in total then you pay back another part of the organisation for the premiums.
I hate to think what mine would look like with the amount of shopping around i do.I beep for Robins - Beep Beep
