Virgin Holiday To Florida

Here is the problem I have

Booked a holiday to Florida last year and paid a deposit of £720 the balance is due shortly.
After finding my OH was hiding bills and a recent over haul of my finances I realised that I was in way too much debt to pay for this holiday and that if I had to lose the deposit compared with paying £3500 for the balance was necessary. I am £20,000 in debt and adding another 16% to that for a holiday is not acceptable.

Does anyone know can I move the deposit to another holiday on another date? My sister who was coming with us wants to go to new york this year and thought I could move the deposit for her?

Or does anyone know of any way to get any of the money back?

If I have to lose it well thats my problem I know

  • I tried doing something similar with my brother with First Choice. We were told that the person who originally booked the holiday must be the lead passenger on the new booking.

might even try that do you know if they will combine all the deposits onto one persons holiday. If they would there is an offer 3 nights in boston for £380 which means OH and I could go for £60 which is acceptable x

  • You could try selling the holiday on ebay if a transfer of names is possible.
  • I think OP should be commended for facing the truth and not putting their heads in the sand.
I hope they find a solution.

as we have found out this week, you cant change names on a virgin atlantic flight (i know as my sister cancelled to go with us on holiday) and second we could move the deposit so she lost it. and the person who booked the holiday the lead name) has to do all the correspondance.
good luck trying to get anything back, but a deposit is a deposit and thats to secure your booking wether you go or not!
and im sure in this climate your not the first person to have to cancel a holiday, better to pay of the debts then go on holiday when you can afford to ,and enjoy it more.

I thought you couldnt sell flights / holidays on ebay because of some insurance malarkie? If the company goes bust, who would the buyer claim against?

You're correct in saying that you can't change names on a flight only booking with Virgin Atlantic. However, it is possible to change names on a package booked with Virgin Holidays.

OP - I am aware of other people who have changed the dates of their holiday and transferred the deposit to the new booking. It's possible that they will charge an amendment fee of around £25 per person to do this, but is preferable to losing the whole deposit if there is another holiday that's financially viable to go on. I hope that you manage to sort something out.
