Appealing parking fine: help!

Hi all,
I'm not sure if this is the appropriate board on which to post this question but I got a parking fine outside my work yesterday which read 'Parked without clearly displaying a valid Pay and Display Ticket/ Voucher.' The thing is, I DID have a pay and display ticket which I'd paid to up to 6pm (I got the fine at 2pm). It was kind of visible but not entirely. However, I think I got the fine notice because I had paid for the ticket from a machine other than the one at my work which is pretty expensive. I got the ticket a few streets away from a cheaper machine (yes I'm a stinge, I'm a student!) and I'm thinking that perhaps this is why I got the fine as opposed to my ticket not being visible. My problem is that I want to appeal the fine because I had a ticket but in doing so, I am risking paying the greater fine of £60 as opposed to £30 if it is rejected. Can anyone shed some light on whether it is ok to pay for a ticket from a machine that is not in the immediate area by where the car is parked? I'd love if anyone could offer some advice before I send away my appeal!
Many thanks,
Jen xxx

I think they freeze the fine while they look at your appeal but am sure that someone will be along soon with a more precise answer for you.

Good trick. I have tried this before and i failed woefully, so pls dont even think about argueing. Pls pay up. They know the trick and they always check the ticket against the machine ID. You were fined for having the wrong ticket. You are in breach of the parking regulation for that area. I am afraid you have to pay the £30. Wisest thing to do0

First things first. Who is the ticket from? A private company or the council? If the council, which council was it? And please let us see the ticket. All of it. All of it means the back and anything else you received too.0

'Money saving' advice?
On the face of it, from a written description there was a contravention.
How, though, can you advise payment as the only option without knowing if documents, signage, road markings and procedure were all legally compliant or if the relevant Traffic Regulation Order is just that - in order?
Goldi - follow sarah's instructions.0 -

You've seen the ticket then? And are certain that it's right? And the road markings and signs are in order, yes?0 -
Thanks all for your responses. Sarah, thanks for your advice. In a sudden moment of panic, I paid the fine online given naijapower's advice but I don't believe it's too late to appeal. The payment was from Glasgow City Council. The contravention was 'parked without clearly displaying a valid pay and display ticket/ voucher.' While I did display a ticket, arguably it wasn't valid since I got it from a different, cheaper machine. The ticket had instructions saying that if I paid within 14 days, I would only have to pay £30 as opposed to £60, it doesn't say much more apart from my reg number and the street the car was on...any advice would be fab! Thanks again for your help x0

Yeh, there's a reason that the machine is cheaper, and if you look at the signage there's probably an area number for the road you're parked in that won't match with the area where the cheap machine is0

Case is closed. You have foregone your right of appeal.0
