how quick are credit ref agencies at updating info from card companies

can any one advise, as i cancelled a few credit cards in november 2008, i have had written confirmation from all 4 cards concerned, as i had noticed not updated on the credit file as yet, the ones i can message (egg and mbna) online, i sent a message to, mbna are sending the details later this month, but egg replied advising that they notify the credit reference agencies 30 days after they cancel the card, this was cancelled on 7th november, so going by that they would have notified by 7th december (give or take a week if take out weekends etc) and have suggested that the delay is with the cra?

would this be true?

does any one know how long they take to update the details that the card companies send or are egg just removing responisibility, egg suggest i contact equifax/experien directly to chase up, but isnt that their job to confirm they have received the info? its not like the reference agencies would take my word for the closure?

From my understanding it is instant.Data is provided by the lenders and they have their own login so they can login instantly to equifax etc and amend/update info.
A client of mine had an issue with a mobile phone company. they had wrong data on him with experian. when he complained mobile company logged into experian and changed data asap and we verified this

It will all depend on when the organisation advise the CRA. In reality, it can take anywhere between 1-12 weeks, so for accounts closed in November it certainley would not be uncommon to find them as still active on a credit report especially considering this falls within the Xmas period.. Personally I would only leave it 6-8 weeks before making enquiries.
Data on cancellations is certainley not instant and never has been. Some card companies will wait a few weeks before advising CRA's just incase any late payments are charged to the card.
