........and another one!

Just received a Parking Charge Notice (from Excel Parking) issued to a vehicle owned by my husbands company.

There are a couple of tiny photos which show the number plate of the vehicle, but I know for a fact that the vehicle was not in the vicinity of the area mentioned on the letter.

I have read Martin's notices and am quite happy not to reply to the company (and we will absolutely not be paying). but we are worried that the vehicle in question may have had it's number plate cloned!

Can anyone tell me what to do next please?
I let my mind wander and it never came back!

Thanks for the reply Crabman, DH is going to ring the police tomorrow.

Just as a point of interest, because the vehicle is registered to a company, would any parking company be able to clobber us anyway? Not trying to get away with anything here, just curious as to how it works.

Not a private parking company, as they can only rely on a contract being formed with the driver of a vehicle at the time, not the owner/keeper of the vehicle. If they don't know who the driver was, they can't follow through with their empty threats of court action.

Just to clarify, when you say 'husbands company' does he own the company, i.e. the correspondence comes to him, or is he just an employee? In case the latter, it'd be best to make sure the company don't pay or respond to the scammers and pass the charge on.
  • Is it your husbands employers vehicle? If so, you may find that it may be detrimental to his job not to.

How do you know the vehicle wasn't there? Were you in it at the time?

No, he owns the company and I am the Director/Secretary/Tea-maker/Chief dogsbody, lol.

If you want a bit of fun, when you receive their 'invoice' ring them up and acknowledge receipt of same and ask for an order number. Explain that your accounts department will only make payments against an order number issued by your company. This is standard policy in very large companies, and they are not to know you don't follow this same procedure.
