Downlights AFTER ceiling has been plastered?

Hi
Can downlights be fitted from below after a ceiling has been plastered or does it cause too much damage ie do you need more holes or anything in the ceiling than you need for the actual downlights? Not really an option to go via the floor boards as its downstairs ceiling I am talking about and it would be too much hassle.
Hope that makes sense
Thanks

how are you going to wire them up? - normally wires need to be run and more often than not there are joists which prevent wires being run. - unless you have already run them - then yes in which case assuming you know where you were planning on having them and where the wires are then I guess you could drill the holes to put the recessed spotlights into - although it is usual practice to have done this pre plastering. Alternatively you coudl use the surface mounted rail based spots which could be wired up via your existing cable where you ceiling rose was0 -
as above, this should have been carried out pre-plastering, as you wont be able to run the cable for the joints and dwangs, unless you can lift the floor boards upstairs then i'd go for surface mounted0

I wired up with all new cables then installed the new ceiling plastered all the room out, drilled the holes and there were the wires, sweet.0

In my last flat, I chased the 12v cables into the plaster, then made good.
Not ideal, but was the only option.0 -
I was looking at one of these in B&Q the other day. Interesting idea.

When I used to do house wiring in the distant past, I was always surprised at the number of people who said , "can you do it without disturbing the decorations, as I have just redecorated the house". By the way, the answer was no.
Foresight, what's that.I can afford anything that I want.
Just so long as I don't want much.0
