The start of my new life...
Was dragged out for drinks last night (kicking and screaming might I add). The intended effect didn't work, my body clock kicked in at 5am this morning. Got up in a good mood. Breakfast involved bacon, eggs and two cans of lager; but hey, today was to be my day!!!
The court is half an hour walk for me. I left at nine and skipped to the bank to withdraw my last seven squid. Decided to make the last part of the journey by osmosis.
Rocked into the court at 9.40 (appointment for ten). Went through security, saw the "attendant?" in an interview room at 9.55; she went through papers (felt good having a letter of support from CAB - my shield of armour?) and I paid my monies. I mentioned that I'd made manual modifications to the SOA (Section 7.1) and that my on-line version differed - see earlier post. She said she wasn't bothered. Was told that the Judge on duty liked to see everyone, hey ho. Left to see the usher at 10.10.
(we heard a scurfuffle(sp?) going on outside in the main reception area; when I left the interview room, there were three "homeless" looking people obviously way away with the faries and two policemen; one of the "homies" was being arrested for affay - inside a court - amusing).
Saw usher, sat down and read my paper (I'm a "razzle" reader). Was called in to see the judge at about 10.28/29. He tried to be jovial (not), asked me if I'd ever been BR before and if I'd taken proffessional advice; he then said something along the lines of "as of 10.29 16/1/2009 you're a bankrupt" - this all probabaly happened in the space of 30 to 60 seconds. He then said he had a couple of questions:
A friend of mine had offered to take me for lunch, Hmmm a free lunch; made a few phone calls telling people how it had gone whilst waiting for the pub to open. We had a couple of beers and some food; then I headed home.
OR rang about 2.45. Had a chat for about 15 mins:
A friends hosting a BR dinner party for me tomorrow night ... wicked. Tonight I think I'll just have a quiet one and reflect. Might even drop into the Bankruptcy Inn later, though the place usually stinks of stale p*ss and is full of drunks
A huge massive thank you to all the people on here that have helped me out; hopefully I can do the same for others. I big wink in everyones general direction

He then said he had a couple of questions:
- Bank accounts ... I said I had a Cashminder ... no probs.
- Car ... he said that my car was now in the possesion of the OR and that I might not now be insured to drive it? (see below).
A friend of mine had offered to take me for lunch, Hmmm a free lunch; made a few phone calls telling people how it had gone whilst waiting for the pub to open. We had a couple of beers and some food; then I headed home.
OR rang about 2.45. Had a chat for about 15 mins:
- I've a telephone interview in a couple of weeks. She's booked an hour.
- The judge was talking crap about car insurance.
- I'll get a "pack" asking for bank/CC statements, wage slips and a letter explaining why I need my car.
- Was told they don't look at the on-line SOA, only the one I'd presented to the court.
- She'll contact creditors in 5 weeks or so.
- I should ignore all attempted contact from creditors.
CO-OP: Cool.
Barclays: Cool. Said they'd ring me back in a couple of days. Well, I look forward to it.
Cahoot: Very brief, cool.
Store Card (no names mentioned - though I once possessed an "Ann Summers" card - girlfriend took me out shopping). The guy didn't really know how to deal with me. I had to tell him just to take my BR info. He said they'll be in touch - I'll ignore.
Egg: Long process. I rang the 0845 number quoted on their last correspondance. They didn't ask for my account number, just personal details and they then knew exactly who I was (do they give out 0845 numbers on a personal basis???). I kept being put on hold, got the impression it might have been a trainee? She said they'd be in touch. I said the OR had told me to ignore any further corresponce - which I will.
Lloyds CC: The longest one - 25 mins. Tranferred/tranferred, put on hold/hold/hold. Was asked (after saying I was BR) that they'd be in touch about me making possible minimum payments - f*ck off.
Lloyds Bank: I owe them over 50K ... yikes. Person I spoke to didn't know what to do. I was given another number. Closed till monday... hey ho. I may/may not let them know the situation - see how they scream.
Then had a phone call from Egg which I ignored. I'm looking forward to having some fun with all subsequent phone calls from creditors. Yippeeee....Barclays: Cool. Said they'd ring me back in a couple of days. Well, I look forward to it.

Like Mr E, I decided to call my creditors just to reduce the risk of further contact. Most were ok and have left me alone but be prepared, some will still call and write.Oh well, not really a hassle because once they know you're bankrupt, they can't do anything!0

I've ignored all calls/letters from creditors since I decided to go BR, though ... CO-OP and Barclaycard were creditors. I actually rang them both on monday and informed them of my imminent BR as a matter of courtesy - I'd like to use their facilities in the future ... basic accounts.
I mentioned this to the judge today. My next salary "should" be payed into my existing cashminder (untouched as yet). The judge told me I should have no problem with the account; though given his comments on car insurance and the ORs response, I think he might be somewhat "out of touch"... I'll just have to wait and see ...0 -
Congratulations Mr E
