True 30/31 isnt too bad for children, its just we are gambling the future of having children against improving my wifes working life.

Im hoping the risk is small as would love children or a child :P. But would hate to see wife depressed working in a factory all her life when she is degree educated.

Am I picking up that you as a FTBer find property affordable because you have saved up for a deposit and that you are not planning to take advantage of prices lowering to secure a lower mortgage but that you will maintain the same mortgage but be able to get a larger property?

So in short you find properties in your area as a FTB affordable

Yeah kind of. Basically i have a budget which ive realistically come to so i am not overstretching myself in the long run. Put it this way, when i first began seaching for property the top end would have been a nice 2 bed terrace / rough 3 bed semi. As time has worn on (and personal circumstances have got better) this has steadily grown from that to now having the oppurtunity of getting hold of a 4 bed detached. I am not after a particular type of property, just going for the best example i can for my money once the time comes. ;)

To answer to your last sentence. I would not say affordable but over the last few years whilst my mates are off on holiday and out twice a week i have been ploughing all my spare time into my business in order to obtain a deposit. Often i think to myself 'why cant i just go and do that' but many of them have said how much they wished they were doing the same. Currently working 12 hours a day 6 days a week but in all honesty i enjoy it to think another 12 - 18 months of this means the difficult part is out of the way and i can be a man of leisure (within reason ;))

this is an excellent opportunity for you. hope that you find what you want.

these drops in property prices will give a lot of people an opportunity to get buy their home or even upgrade.

however, some people are so hooked on seeing average price drops and believe it will apply to them and their area. unfortunately, it will not and they're going to miss out and they will blame sellers for not being realistic.

Thanks, it really helps coming on here daily as the 'we are saving for a deposit' lot can share each others misery of not being able to spend money! lol ;)

30/31 is not old to have a baby!
I was 34 and 38 when I had mine - and this was because we did not marry until I was 32, not because of any problems conceiving.

    Your figures are absolute rubbish!

Your earlier example of couple salary Did not use 1X female income + !1X male income!!!

    http://www.statistics.gov.uk/cci/nugget.asp?id=285

    from the government website

THE MEDIAN FROM THE TABLE England and wales median 26K

that 35K includes the likes of banking bosses that massively alters the average data, hence the use of median data.Median doesnt include high % low wages as the same % of higher salaries as lower salaries are not included! Just becuase the figures dont explain your pathetic attempt to explain higher salaries doesnt mean they are not right.

Do you also want to explain why your made up, completely false homemade couples mean income is higher than the average income?

I tell you why, its because you are talking @rse.

I was going to retaliate, but thought better of it. I do not need to respond in a childish manner and do not need to bring myself down to your level. When you resort to childish behaviour to get your point across you are already fighting a losing battle ;)

    Think about it my friend.

You can argue black is white until the cows come home, the evidence is published in the table provided, the figures used are 110% accurate, so i have no idea how you can still stand there and argue about them:rolleyes:

NDG thanked you for your abusive and insulting post too so says a lot about her:rolleyes:

Just as to a point about averages here....

Take 5000 people in the country earning £500k salaries
Take 5m people in the country earning £10k salaries

Very believable figures being used here.

Work out the average (mean) and then tell me again that those super high earners are really skewing the figures.

Likewise let me know the medain figure also.

The median figure of a male in FT work is £27500, the mean figure of a male in FT work is £35k+

There's nothing complicated about reading info from a table.

If Mr average meets Mrs average so a genuine average couple their income will obviously be 2 x average income which according to the ONS is £52,040.

    Not hard.

However i did state the average typical household income is £37k and this will be due to the typical PT mother with children not earning average salary. It also includes all those who are on benefits and that do not work. Its the average household income, not the average working household income.

I then made the point about what constitutes a real average. Do you take the £37k household or do you take the true genuine meaning of the word average, i.e Mr average on £26k and Mrs average on £26k, ie the perfect average couple.

I get the feeling you are a military WO/Officer? If so, your mannerisms are appalling for being in such a position of authority. You would think at that level, that you would be able to manage a civilized debate without the need for petty insults ;)

indeed, 4 bedrooms after coming closer to me, altho i will prob go for a really nice 3 bedroom (garage, drive etc) :P
  • Although I concede renting is more expensive (comparatively) than in most western countries I still don't really think its that expensive when you factor in that it reduces in real terms each year as even though salary increases aren't particularly high in UK they are at least higher than rent increases (in London anyway)

Your posts really are quite similar to my life experience.

I think I could sum it up as being that property is affordable if you are willing to make sacrifices i.e. you say about holidays and going out twice a week.
This re-iterates the thread title where it seems that people want to be able to do all that and be able to afford a property. This is where they are being unrealistic

Buying property has always historically been difficult with sacrifices to be made
