full re-wire any help?

i have bought a house in cheshire and want it rewired, i want it like for like but all the sockets and switches positioned at the new regulation heights (if im doing it might as well do it properly). im getting all the materials my self as i know a friend that can get me it at cost price.

its a 5 bed room house

2 bathrooms
kitchen
living room
utility
dinning area
garage and attic

i counted

37 sockets
20 switches 6 of which are 2 way,
23 lights 6 of which are down lighters
2 shower feeds
a feed for the cooker
and a feed for the fridge freezer on a non rcd whatever that means
the kitchen when fitted will also have 3 lights above the work tops under the cupboards
and the garage is going to be done in plastic conduit.
a new board
and for it to be tested with bonding done as well

i forgot to mention down stairs has solid concrete floors so all the down stairs sockets have to be wired from above

any ideas as to how much this will cost me for labour? i already have a rough idea for materials im looking for labour only

thanks

  • i have been quoted 3,450 by my first electrician i had look at it another one is due to get back to me by monday. is this over priced for the work involved? or is it reasonable?
  • the wiring will probably involve cutting of chases and holes around the existing soon to be removed sockets/switches . who will be responsible for the replastering of those? the electrician may let you do the chases etc and let you make good if you are capable/have the time which could reduce the bill. the qoute is a little on the high side if it doesnt include replastering. if the house is a funny layout or has split levels rather than a standard box shape or has lots of period features like ornate coving or large skirting boards etc that could be tricky to work round then that would increase the cost.
  • it doesn't include plastering i have a family member who will do this after they have finished. i had budgeted for it to be no more than 2,750 pounds i don't know if thats just wish full thinking though.
