hi

I have just moved in to a 1 bedroom flat and i have just switched my supplier from Southern Electric and British Gas to N power . I am not in most of the day and am generally only home in the evening . My heating is only on for 3 1/2 hours max 4 hours a day at most . N Power want to charge me £25 per month for electric ( i dont think that too bad) as i dropped it from £34 and they want to charge me £34 per month for my gas ( was £42 but i dropped it to £34) . I dont really use much gas at all so im not sure if my payments are too high i not had any bills before as i only been living there since nov > N power wont reduce the gas monthly dd any lower say i have to wait till my 1st bill . I dont even know when that is as my online account is still not set up and i have been given conflicing information from them. Im not sure if i should ring them and ask them to lower my monthy payment or just stick with it as it is or go back to my other suppliers .. this is all new to me and i feel totally lost can any one advise any help would be very much appreciated

thanks:confused:

    Welcome to the forum.

£59 a month for gas and electricity is certainly not high. The UK average is about £108 - although I appreciate you have a small flat.

I would just stick with those payments and see how things look after 6 months; your gas will normally be at its highest over the next 3 months so you won't get a good idea of consumption - you will probably be well in debt for gas.

i dont understand how the meter readings equate to payments but in the last month i have only used 25 units of Gas but how this relates to payment i dont have a clue £55 a month seems high i am just going to have to wait and see as this will be my 1st real bill but till i get it ( and i dont know when!) i cant do alot

    25 metric meter units = approx 25 x 11 =275kwh (about £11)
    25 imperial meter units = approx 25 x 31 = 775kwh (about £31)

I also have a 1 bed flat and have just changed back to Npower for gas & electricity.
I have been with EON and spending £47/month for dual fuel. Npower have just quoted me £35/month for both.

Don't foget that you might be using gas to heat your water if you have a gas boiler - it's not just the heating.

You should get your first bill soon anyway - so I would wait until you've seen the usage and then ask Npower again about reducing it.
Why does nobody say Thank You anymore??

You have an imperial meter. If you're paying £34 a month for gas, that's about right. When it's reviewed, if prices stay the same, you could argue for a reduction because you won't be using so much. Your annual bill will be less than 12 x £34 so you could pay less and still cover the year's use.

They might mean quarterly billing is normal practice but that you can submit monthly readings if you want to.
