London Marathon!

Options
Hello peeps - just wondering if anyone out there is doing the FLM this year?

It's my first time and I'm really nervous already, am not aiming for any particular time but just to get round on a run/walk strategy. Hopefully if I can build my pace up a bit then I might be able to tag onto the runners world pacing group for run/walk but who knows!!!!! :T

Am raising money for my works charity which in turn will split the money between our 6 supported charities - Marie Curie, Childline, The Calvert Trust, Foundation for Conductive Education, Canine Partners for the Disabled and Hope & Homes for Children. Just in case anyone out there has a few spare pennies and could like to help me towards my fundraising target my page is www.justgiving.com/karensmarathon2009 :o sorry, I know thats a bit cheeky especially in the current climate.....:o Honestly am more up for support or input from anyone else who's taking part this year or has done it before?

Hi - I ran it in 2005, adn you'll have a great time. Log on to runnersworld.co.uk for training plans, and support in the forums (we're a nice bunch over there).

Advice ? well, being April, be prepared for *every* type of weather possible! I got sunburnt when I ran it (fair skinned you see!), but got thoroughly soaked this year cheering on a friend - so much so I had to go into a sports shop and buy dry socks to change into :D.
Practise eating and drinking whatever you're going to do on the day - I can't stomach lucozade sport that they provide so took my own.

at the finish (1) you will blub like a baby :D and (2) check there's no-one close by dressed as a womble or toilet who could spoil your finishing line photo :rotfl: adn (3) queue up after the finish and pose with your well earned medal, as this is likely to be your best photo of the day.

pm me if you want any specific questions answered

    good luck :D

edit : just to add that the RW "get you round" group is *very* *very* good :-)
  • Thanks so much chazbee - I'm actually following the RW get you round plan - have got 45 mins sesh tonight on 3 mins run 1 min walk, should be interesting as I struggled a wee bit with the 3+2 although I think that's cos I wasn't walking fast enough to keep my heart rate up enough in the intervals.

Sunday will be interesting too - it's an hour and 40 mins! Have already got hubby lined up with his bike to come round with me!

Thanks so much for the offer of PMs too - careful cos I'll hold you to it!!!!!
