My kids seem to prefer homemade burgers, we have a 'mcdonalds at home', if you go to www.topsecretrecipe.com you can get the recipe for big mac or mcdonalds burger sauce, we toast the buns in a dry frying pan and do our our skinny fries (or buy the ones from lidls) and to be honest you get a very good meal for pennies!
Excellent website, i wonder if there is a UK version??!!!

I don't think there is, but most of the things they have can be swapped for something we have, just annoying when they call it by a brand name and you have to track down what the ingredient is. I sign up to the email and they let me know once a week when they have a new recipe.0

Yes, but as it really presses everything together the burgers hold their shape when cooking.Squares knitted for my throw ~ 90 (yes!!! I have finally finished it :rotfl: )Squares made for my patchwork quilt ~ 80 (only the "actual" quilting to do now :rotfl:)0 -
Am thinking of investing in a burger maker after reading this thread. Only thing is I can't get my head around being inventive with burgers. Any suggestions to what sort of thing to add to them? My kids refuse to eat veg and so I would like to get it disguised this way. Also - after i mince the meat/chicken do I need to bind it with egg or breadcrumbs
Thanks in advance.0 -
What I have done from time to time is make really thin burgers (I have a lakeland press) then I cut out circles of cheese (leave 1/2" of meat around the outside) and put it between 2 of the thin burgers and re-press them together - voila - Burger Kiev!
I suppose you could use Chilli or pureed veg as well.
If you look on the Scobies web site they have some wonderful semi pro burger makers that do hollow burgers and also a marvelous selection of shapes too.

I've been faffing around this afternoon, a burger press also makes good solid Hash Browns (Need to work on the recipe a bit more yet) and also cheese and potato rounds, if greased a bit it makes rice "cakes" too and it is great for portioning pizza dough prior to freezing it without wasing space. The quicker you fall behind, the longer you have to catch up...0
