Ringing your bank

Hey Im not 100% this is the best forum to post in, but could benefit more people in here...

Whilst ringing a few banks today using phone numbers found on their website, I realised that they give an international calling number (HSBC for example is +44 1226 261226). Is this a cheaper alternative to call from within the UK than the 0845 alternative? I have to use a mobile as I live in student accomodation and have many free minutes so was hoping by using the +44 number the call would count as a national call.

Anyone got any tips on this?

Part of the Furniture 1,000 Posts Name Dropper Combo Breaker
Try www.saynoto0870.com. That has most geographical telephone numbers.

Drop the +44, and add a 0, to make it 01226 ..., that'll make it count just as a normal national rate call.

Or, make it totally free (and not using up any free minutes), some banks will phone you back, e.g. Halifax, you go to http://www.halifax.co.uk/bankaccounts/callback.asp, put in your phone number and they will call you back instantly.

    I always do this.

If i can't find a geographical number either by looking at international alternatives or saynoto0870.com, I call them up and say I am moving abroad, how do I contact you as 0845 numbers won't work :D Gotten quite a few that way!!

  • I always use the international number for calling HSBC. Call it a staff discount, or whatever, but it's the same service and I've saved a pretty penny. :D

Yeh the number pretty much always takes you through to the same place anyway - And if not they sometimes take you further up the queue!

From a mobile it doesn't matter.
I store all my numbers as +44 xx dropping the 0 as it makes them much easier to dial when abroad.

Cheers for your responses, I was hoping this would be the case. Glad I've found myself a moneysaving technique, be it a small one :D

Plenty there. If you want actionline, call one of the other numbers and they can put you through
