HSBC No Interest and now £25 Overdraft

As an update -
I visted my local branch of HSBC and spoke to an advisor who could not see why the charge had been applied, and said it seemed wrong especially as I had previously had a letter saying there would not be a charge.
I asked for my money back, and she refered to the manager.
I got a call from the manager yesterday and he said as an act of good will he would refund the £25 even though I should be charged it. I asked why I should be charged the fee, and he could not explain, and said the new terms and conditions are quite complicated and hard to follow and I should come in for a full explanation.
Oh well. maybe I will....No reliance should be placed on the above.0 -
Well the manager is wrong and you shouldn't have been charged. If he had phoned me I would have explained the 'complicated' charges in a few sentences.0

In any case, I think that the hassles and errors that result from the poor service offered by A and L would cost more than the 25 pounds. However, if HSBC believe that your overdraft requires this fairly hefty fee, I suggest you borrow cheaply from A and L and use the funds to keep your HSBC account in credit.0

just as a footnote -
When I was talking to the advisor in the branch, stating my misguided loyalty, I brought up the subject of mortgages (which they seem to leap upon) and how my house was coming up for remortgage (even though it isn't
). The bank manager mentioned this topic again on the phone, it could be a small extra weapon in negotiations. No reliance should be placed on the above.0
