I have my life savings locked with AI for both one year and 2 year fixed bonds.

    I'm staying put.

My elderly Mum has just opened a one year bond with AI for £15,000.

    She's staying put.

Is that definitely Anglo Irish Bank and not Allied Irish Bank though?

From that article in The Daily Mail today posted on here earlier, it seems like we have no option now but to stay put.

I hadn't spotted the article as I've only just popped onto the forum.

Having spent some time in 'stress hell' when all my savings were involved in the Kaupthing Edge drama, I'm doing a bit of 'head in the sand' & just hoping it'll all be OK. In a way, it's a bit of a relief that the decision to withdraw has been taken out of my hands.

It is very unfair, but they've now ensured that very few people will want to have a FD with them! To me the possibility of Ireland going bust is an emergency that justifies withdrawal.

    Ireland ‘could default on debt’

    http://business.timesonline.co.uk/tol/business/economics/article5733723.ece

"FEARS are mounting that Ireland could default on its soaring national debt pile, amid continuing worries about its troubled banking sector. The cost of buying insurance against Irish government bonds rose to record highs on Friday, having almost tripled in a week. Debt-market investors now rank Ireland as the most troubled economy in Europe."

"Pledges made by Ireland to support its banking sector amount to 220% of the country’s annual economic output. The total loans held in Irish banks are more than 11 times the size of the economy. Following the scandal at Anglo Irish Bank over undisclosed loans, the market fears there are more hidden problems that could ultimately fall to the state to resolve."

OMG, as if I wasn't stressed enough about it yesterday, this is just awful:eek:

Why won't they let me have my money back? Yes I did sign up to a fixed term, but on the T&C's ruling at the time in 2007, it is them that have moved the goalposts and changed everything.
