Excel > Works problem

When I had XP, I used Excel to draw up spreadsheets for the family budget.
We now have a new PC with Vista and Works. I've imported the last spreadsheet from Excel and am trying to update it for January on the new machine but I'm stuck as the most basic of things. I can't seem to merge cells in Works.
So I have an Excel formatted sheet that looks different in Works as all the previously merged cells have been unmerged iyswim and I can't seem to find any function that I can use to merge the cells again.
Help?

Works is rubbish, for your own sanity I'd recommend that you stop using it and either;
1) If you are able, uninstall Excel from the XP machine and reinstall it on the Vista one.
2) Download Open Office which is a free office package that may well be more than adequate for what you are doing. It won't cost you anything more than half an hour to download and install, so give it a shot. Nothing ventured, nothing gained..
3) Buy Office 2007 Home and Student for less than £50. This version allows you to install it on up to three machines, so you can have Excel wherever you need it.0 -
Have to say I'm not overly impressed with Works. I did find out how to make the cells act like they were merged horizontally (although the grid lines were still there) so the text was centred but I couldn't get it to merge vertically.
Will see about putting Excel on this pc I think. Thanks for the links..will go look now.Herman - MP for all!0 -
You can download an excel viewer free from Microsoft.com if you need to view the spreadsheets to reproduce in works.
Thanks to MSE, I am mortgage free!
